etc.

Here are a few things that weren't done when we moved in.

Here are the outside lights:

and the front door.

I know, we all miss the Budwiser door, but it will live on in our memories.

we're in

The move went well, despite some rainstorms. However we couldn't fit everything into the truck, so we still have to make some trips from the apartment with the van.

There are still workers at the house today: painters, kitchen tile grout guy, and the person staining our front door.

Phone and cable is quite the issue. I don't want to malign a company in this pubic forum so I won't use it's name. "Cromcast" is giving us the run around. And I won't bore you with the details, but we won't have phone, cable or internet service until next week! If it wouldn't take two weeks to go with another provider, we would be kicking Cromcast to the curb. Very frustrating. And if you need to contact us, use our cell phones. But don't worry, we'll be at the apartment quite a bit to check email and I can call to retrieve phone messages.

The house feels like home already. We're very happy. The kids all like their rooms. A big thank you goes out to Laura for helping them get all set up. And another big thank you to all of the grandparents and friends who have kept J occupied while we're moving in.

No time to take pictures yesterday. but here's the gist of the whole house.

the move has been moved

Tuesday became Thursday. A few more things had to fall into place. Open items include:

second coat of finish on the floors
kitchen tile
final sanding and treatment of granite
low voltage wiring
and some other small details

In the mean time here's the only picture I have to offer.
You cannot tell from this photo that any of the aforementioned things are pending:

let there be light- ing fixtures

Big day at the house today.

Final inspection.

But before that, the carpet and things like mirrors, towel racks, etc. need to be installed. Other than that, I think we're set.

The lighting fixtures went up yesterday. These pictures might be almost as fun as my "watching the paint dry" series of photos.

a visit from the sod fairy

I'm sure our neighbors were thrilled to have all of these, along with the giant flatbeds needed to bring them, blocking their driveways.

The yards are eagerly awaiting their grassy blankets. It goes down today, and the forecast calls for rain in the afternoon. Perfect.

Also arriving today are the plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, and appliances. Things are just a flurry of activity, and if all goes well we'll move in on Tuesday.

Yes, I said Tuesday.

we're floored

The floors are being finished. Here are some pictures taken from outside. The color may lighten up, as it is still wet.

Oooh shiny!

painting part II

Here's the family room. I am reserving judgement because I saw it while it was wet and it was reflecting the covering on the floor.

It also looked totally different to me in different parts of he house.

This picture doesn't exactly capture what it looks like either. We'll see.

We went dark with the office. I really like it.

paint, part I

The painters have been busy. All of the bedrooms are done. We let the girls pick out their own colors.

Their choices were...bold. They went with their favorite colors (oddly neither chose taupe)

K's Room

E's room.

And here's the view from E's room into K's room. Apparently, a cotton candy machine exploded in that area of the house. (the girls, Petunia Pink and Beatrice Blue are thrilled)

We were less creative. J's room

is the same color as ours.

the counters have tops!

The granite came today.

Digging the whole breakfast counter.

Here's the counter in the master bath

the path of least resistance

We kicked around the idea of using pavers for our walkway. However, we went with concrete instead. It's a bit rectangular, but we like it.

anticipation

We will hopefully have a moving date very soon. Several things need to fall into place. The appliances aren't being delivered until the 30th, so it's not going to be before that.

Stuff that needs to happen: interior painting, finishing the floors, carpeting, lighting fixtures, plumbing, the aforementioned appliances, granite, furniture delivery...I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Oh, the landscaping- but that can happen once we're in.

Here are some riveting pictures(if you enjoy watching paint dry-no, really):

And here's the swamp yard.

awaiting appliances

So the kitchen is really shaping up. The drawers are really cool. They have some sort of anti-slam (my terminology) mechanism in them. You can shove them pretty hard and they stop just short of slamming and sort of ease themselves closed.

mind your step

We chose a natural stain for the oak wood floors. Here's how the stairway looks:

We have a driveway!
